Chopra breaking his own National Record again
Neeraj Chopra has broken the national record. Again. 27 times he has done it now since first breaking it in 2016. Chopra opened with a stunning throw of 89.94m, just 6 cm shy of the 90m mark- the gold standard in the world of javelin and that effort eventually turned out to be his best of the night. His other throws measured 84.37m, 87.46m, 84.77m, 86.67 and 86.84m.
Chopra had made a spectacular return after 10 months to competition after his historic gold in the Tokyo Olympics. In his first competitive event since winning a historic gold in Tokyo, Chopra set a new national record of 89.30m while taking part at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland. He took silver as Finland’s Oliver Helander secured the gold with a throw of 89.83m. Chopra's earlier national record was 88.07m which he had set in Patiala in March last year. A few days later at the Kuortane Games in the same nation, he threw 86.69m to win the event. Olympic Champion Neeraj Chopra was at his best as he beat the reigning world champion, Anderson Peters of Grenada, for the second time in four days to win gold at the Kuortane Games in Finland. Chopra's opening throw of 86.69m turned out to be the winning distance.
After Kuortane, Chopra will feature in the Stockholm leg of the Diamond League. Chopra was making his first Diamond League appearance in four years after his fourth-place finish in Zurich in August 2018. He has taken part in seven Diamond League meets -- three in 2017 and four in 2018.
After breaking his national records for 2 consecutive times, he once again broke his record at Diamond League. On a bright Thursday evening in Stockholm at the Diamond League, Chopra sprinted out for the very first throw of the competition, hurled himself to the floor and the javelin to a point exactly 89.94m away and a new national record was created.
